Howdy, friendly reading person!
I'm on a bit of a hiatus right now, but only to work on other projects -- one incredibly exciting example being the newly-released kids' science book series Things That Make You Go Yuck!
If you're a science and/or silliness fan, give it a gander! See you soon!

Man, I Am Not Looking Forward to Unpacking

Well, hello there! Good to see you, and glad you made it!

Welcome to the brandy-new home of Where the Hell Was I?. Soon, I’ll have more info on where exactly, geographically, ‘here’ is, plus many thanks and much praise for my new gracious site host.

(And maybe even an embarrassing story or two you can ask him about — I’ve known him since elementary school, and believe me, neither of us are going to be running for public office while the other is alive. Yeeks!)

For now, though, I just want to welcome you, and thank you for dropping by. I’ve got a few things left to do around here — importing the comments from the old site, updating XML/RSS info, tweaking templates — so I’m going to get back to that and let you show yourself around the new digs.

(Oh, and for those of you who’ve come to expect a daily dose of drivel from my poor, abused keyboard, rest assured that I didn’t forsake you yesterday, no matter what the gap in the dates here suggests. You’ll find yesterday’s post only at the old site. The content wouldn’t have made a lot of sense here, so I didn’t bring it over.

You can think of it as a ‘limited edition’ post, if you like. Makes it sound all mysterious and shit, don’t it?)

So have a look around, and lemme know if you find anything amiss, have something you’d like to see, or just want to say hello. (No, no, blogwarming gifts aren’t necessary; no, really, that’s ever so kind, but please. I couldn’t.)

I’ll be back later today to play some more, and hopefully post again. I’ve got some big things planned, folks — just stick with me for a few days, and we’ll get all settled in, all right? And be glad that I didn’t ask you to help me move the heavy shit. Sheesh. I’m gonna be sore for a week.

  1. Chasmyn says:

Well, I’m here! So let’s get this party started. Are you going to redecorate, too?

  2. P says:

congrats on the new home! you did read the pest control report on this place before you bought it i assume. and you did know about those neighbors next door who have the band that practices in the garage…

    :)

i’ll go update your URL in my blogroll right now.

  3. Andy Lee says:

Congrats on the move. The real bear is going to be changing all those damn internal links…

(And making the comment template match the main index template.)

    :)

  4. Flip says:

I had prepared something to say about your flashy new site, but it looks just the same. So I’ll say “thank goodness for familiarity” instead :) Good luck with the new site!

  5. Susan says:

I was under the impression when “you were movin on up” you got a new look… ;)

    Congrats to the personal domain!

  6. Jeff A says:

Yay, another MT convert. Soon we will have them all under our control then we shall take over the world!

  7. shelley says:

Oooooh, LOOKY! A new home! You really should do something about those curtains, but otherwise everything looks … well, as someone else so gracelessly pointed out, it looks exactly the same. I like it, don’t get me wrong. I just got all excited to sit on the new couch and all I get is … this? *Sigh!* Well, welcome, anyway.

  8. shelley says:

Now wait just one cotton-pickin’ minute, Charles. I have a strong feeling about ascending comments versus descending comments. It’s kinda like the toilet paper over-the-top or under-the-*ahem*-bottom controversy. Everybody knows there’s a right way and a wrong way, and THIS? Well, this is the wrong way. Please place my comments at the bottom where they belong. That is all.

  9. Charlie says:

Shelley — right you are, and I completely agree. Comments are now top to bottom, as all right-thinking people would have them.

And to (almost) everybody… man, nobody likes my blocky blues? *sniff* I like my design, dammit! Plus, it took a freaking long time to recreate it. Now I’m all pouty. Poopenheimers!

(I will, however, be getting around to skins before long, so you won’t have to wait too long until you have options… but I’m still gonna use my blocky blue, so poop on ya if you don’t dig it.

Unless, of course, I find a nice picture involving Heather Graham and some sort of whipped dessert topping to use as a backdrop. Hey, I can dream, can’t I?)

Anyway, I can’t believe nobody’s given me props for finally being able to have a little address bar/site bar icon. I didn’t change much in the design, but I think it adds a touch of class, don’t you?

  10. shelley says:

I’d give you mad props all over the place but I have no clue what a “little address bar/site bar icon” is. (I even looked back at the “old” site but I can’t see a difference.) Can you help me, the technologically challenged one, out?

P.S. And I’m glad you saw things my way about the comments without my needing to get rough.

  11. Wyn says:

Congrats on the move and also for those nifty numbers. I hope the pics I have posted “chez moi” correspond to your request ;-)

  12. Monkey says:

Hey, nice place you got here.

    oooh baby… rss feed….

  13. I noticed it, I just didn’t want to say anything about your new ‘Favorites’ Icon because I thought I had missed it before. =\ Now that I know it wasn’t me, NICE one!!

  14. Andy says:

Hey, ain’t nothin wrong with the blocky blues.

    Oooooh I got the bluuuues.

Ahem. Seriously, though, if you plan on redesigning, which I don’t think is very necessary, keep it simple. You’ve built up a very loyal following through your writing, not some flashy, takes-too-damn-long-to-load-even-on-my-DSL-connection-and-has-so-many-colors-it-hurts-my-eyes-and-I-swear-if-I-see-one-more-lame-animation site. Just make sure your writing is highlighted and everything else fits nicely in the background.

    Simple. Clean. Effecient. Elegant.

That’s all I gotta say man.

  15. Joe says:

Looks good Charlie! I have to admit I was a wee bit surprised at how similar it looks to the old one…but, hey, why mess with a good thing, right?

    Keep on keepin’ on!

  16. Flip says:

Nothing wrong with blue blocks – familiar is good and the layout does what it’s supposed to :)

  17. HR Lady says:

All you need to do is slap a coat of paint on her and she’ll be liveable. Call Trading Spaces.

  18. I dig ya…I shall follow!!!! Have fun and congrats!
