September 9, 2005: A Weekend Odyssey Begins

The second weekend of September ’05 will always hold a special place for me. This is hte weekend that Rick at the Studio let me play consecutive weekend nights — Friday and Saturday shows, right in a row. That’s special.

To be honest, I fought through the Friday show a bit. I’d gone to a Thursday night Patriots game the night before, and was still feeling the effects of the late-night tailgating. And mid-evening tailgating, and early-afternoon tailgating, and… well, you get the point. Ouch.

The crowd was spectacular, though, and saw me through my sweats and shakes with a fantastic set of laughs. Given their reaction and my condition, this may have been one rare night where the audience actually had a better time than I did. I’m not sure that’s ever happened before. Really — ask anyone who’s ever been in another crowd of mine. This one was special.
